About me

In case you missed it on the front page, my name is Daniel, and the only passion of mine, equal to that of drumming in my band, is my one for cinema; indeed, it probably qualifies as obsession.  This blog is a way to talk about that obsession in ways I would not get the opportunity to when writing for www.shadowlocked.com, to whom I often contribute.  I hope that some of you enjoy what I have to say, and consider following, commenting, and generally responding with YOUR thoughts.

My earliest movie memory is of being taken to see The Jungle Book; I do not remember by whom, but I recall my enthusiastic response to the animation.  Next would be that of my parents taking me to see Ghostbusters 2 (why I never saw the first one, I've no idea), and my father falling asleep whilst I was enraptured!  Following that, the next significant memory is my terror and inability to sleep after seeing Gremlins, being convinced the creatures were camping out in my bedroom; this is despite never having been presented with, let alone the non-existence of, a mogwai.  Then, thanks to a loving and thoughtful mother, the conflation of fear and fascination that came with a late night showing of Alien.  I watched in terror as John Hurt choked and spluttered his way to a very painful death, whilst the part of me that understood this was fake  couldn't help but wonder....how is that done?  Since then my love for film has been ever growing, my knowledge always expanding; by the time I hit my twenties I was a fully-fledged, self-professed film geek.

The question so often asked of us:  What is my favourite film?  After my top two I couldn't be specific, but those top two have been easy for some time:  Fearless by the often overlooked Peter Weir (a film maker of impressive imagination and care for his craft), starring Jeff Bridges, and The Elephant Man by David Lynch, which takes the number one spot.
